The Chinese city of Yulin plays host to the “Lychee and Dog Meat Festival” every year. Also simply known as the “Yulin Dog Meat Festival,” it is hosted to celebrate summer solstice.
Since its inception in 2009, the festival promotes the centuries-old superstitious folk belief that “dog meat wards off the summer heat,” and that it “increases sexual stamina.”

Volunteers of Humane Society International have joined hands with thousands of Chinese activists to stop this barbaric festival from seeing the light of the day.
So far, it has been very difficult to combat the growing reach of this industry due to the popularity of dog meat as a “delicacy” in China.
This industry is a nuisance for the locals as well. Most people in China do not consume dog meat. In fact, dogs are adored pets in many households.
Many families are left heartbroken after the underlings of this degenerate industry steal their pets to meet demands.

Over 15,000 strays and pets are slaughtered every year ahead of this festival. Undercover videos have emerged showing the dogs suffering the most inhumane deaths.
They are stocked and transported like lifeless junk. Living, breathing dogs are smashed with hammers, butchered, tossed in boiling water, skinned and torched without a trace of mercy, all while the dogs scream for help.
We’ve seen enough nauseating images and videos of these helpless victims and it is about time we raised our voices against this murderous rampage.
Our hopes are pegged on spreading awareness and unrelenting protests to help tear down this monstrous industry from its core.
