A stray animal experiences significant hardships that we can only imagine. Finding food and shelter is challenging enough.
Many strays have either been dumped by owners after abuse and neglect or have never had human contact. They are understandably skeptical of people.
This Pit Bull was so afraid of her rescuers that she shook uncontrollably.

At first, she lashed out when the Hope For Paws team had her cornered in a garage. She seemed to be exhibiting aggression but as they soon learned, it was only her response to fear. Eldad recognized it and used his experience to get her to settle down.

Capture was the priority. She was so thin already and was unlikely to survive long on her own. Eldad wrapped his arm up to protect himself while trying to pet her.
He was testing her out to see if she’d bite. She lowered her head and her eyes got so wide. Again, this was a fear-based response.

Eldad knew he could pet her, unprotected now. Remember, he’s a professional and to NEVER attempt something like this yourself.
While getting his hand close, the dog bowed her head a bit and allowed a gentle touch. But now it was time to get that lucky red leash around her and bring her in.

The next step was to bring the pup to the veterinarian. She was medically assessed and then put in a foster home. Just look at her first smile!

The dog, later named Rosie, found her forever home with a very nice family. She’s doing great. This rescue is a lesson to us all. When a dog acts like this, it’s not always about aggression.
We should still be careful and allow the professionals to handle it. However, dogs will lash out because they’re scared more than anything.

We hope all the strays, like Rosie, find their happily ever after. Take a beat and watch the rescue and transformation video by The Dodo below.
Thank you, Hope For Paws! You’re all amazing!
