A mother’s love is a powerful thing. It even transcends one’s own needs, especially when a mom is so desperate to ensure her babies are safe and secure.
For the stray Pit Bull in this story, being rescued wasn’t an option. She had seen humans come and go. Some would leave food and water around. Some even attempted to approach her.
But she felt, in her heart, that rescuing her meant she’d be separated from her babies. Even though she was a stray without proper shelter, she hid her babies in a safe place. She loved and cared for them as best as she could.

When Hope For Paws heard about the little family, they knew that this mama could not remain on the streets. It was only a matter of time until something terrible happened to them.
When they arrived, the rescuers put up a temporary fence. Kind neighbors stood at the perimeter, happy to help.

Mama sees her rescuers and doesn’t trust the situation. She is understandably scared and protective of her babies. She watches these unknown humans very carefully as they move about.
Even when Eldad places the leash around her, her eyes dart around. She shows no aggression; she is only fearful for one reason. She thinks that her babies could be left behind while she is saved.

Of course, that is not going to happen. Once mom is safe, the rescuers seek out the puppies. Their intentions are pure but Mom won’t trust them until she knows that for certain.
